What is the UNO Model United Nations Club?
The University of New Orleans (UNO) Model United Nations (MUN) is a student organization that familiarizes students with the political, economic, social, and cultural functions of the United Nations. Our goal is to prepare students to be productive global citizens, to develop their diplomatic communication skills, and to increase their understanding of cultural differences both locally and globally. The Club’s primary activities are related to the National Model United Nations Conference in New York City each spring. All UNO students are invited to apply to become delegates and compete as representatives of UNO in this international academic exercise.
Why Are We Doing This?
The Model United Nations Club exists to involve students in conversations about international affairs. During each spring semester, students in the Club are given the opportunity to conduct research on issues facing the actual United Nations and to improve their public speaking skills. As members of the Club and as delegates to the National Model United Nations Conference, they will learn how to think, speak, and act as diplomats representing a specific assigned member nation of the UN. At the Conference, the Club members will compete alongside 5000 other delegates from universities all over the world for one-week, culminating in a final session that takes place in the General Assembly Hall of the United Nations in New York. The purpose of these activities is to help our Club members become effective and confident community leaders, committed to making a difference in the lives of the people around them.
This is our ninth year of participation in the National Model United Nations. During our first eight years, we have received the highest honor (Outstanding Delegation Award) twice, the second highest honor (Distinguished Delegation Award) three times, one Honorable Mention Delegation award, four Outstanding Position Paper awards, and two Outstanding Delegates-in-Committee awards.
What Will Your Support Do?
Our primary goal is to ensure that all students who are selected to participate in the New York Conference can do so without having to worry about finances. Combined with our own University funding, your support will cover the lodging and airfare of all students. Most of our students already pay for their own tuition, housing, and every day expenses. We need your help in sending these students to the 2018 National Model United Nations conference. We want to give our students the opportunity to go to New York and experience the benefits of networking with delegates from all over the world. Your support will help us achieve this. Plus, all of your donations are tax deductible.

You are what you eat! After a long day at conference, our delegates look forward to dinner. Your gift will provide 1 meal for a MUN delegate during debriefing sessions. Donors at this level will receive emails and projects updates so you can see how you’ve helped us.
If you want to go fast, go with others! Networking is an essential part of the NMUN conference. Your gift will provide business cards, personalized notepads, and pens for our delegates. Along with lower level perks, donors at this level will receive a postcard signed by all the delegates thanking them for their support.
After all the preparation, it is time to hop on the plane to NYC! Help our delegates arrive on time. This gift will cover part of the airfare for one delegate
We would like to thank you for flying with UNO’s Model United Nations Airlines! Your gift will provide part of the airfare for one delegate. Although we will not give you airplane food, you will receive the aforementioned gifts and an official Division of International Education Pen.
Sleep solves everything! Your gift will cover one hotel room for our delegates. Alongside lower level perks, donors at this level will receive a UNO pin.
Hard work pays off! Our delegates spend several months at UNO preparing for the National Model UN conference in New York City. During conference, they work every day from the early morning to the late evening. Although it might seem stressful, most of our delegates consider this experience to be extremely rewarding. Your gift will provide either two hotel rooms or a full airfare for one delegate. In addition to getting all the other perks, donors at this level will receive a United Nations pin and a video of all the delegates thanking them for their support.
