Who are the University of New Orleans’ Orientation Leaders?
The Orientation Leaders (OLs) at the University of New Orleans (UNO) welcome, inform, and transition incoming first-year students at New Student Orientation. New Student Orientations are 1-2 day programs where incoming students get acquainted with the campus and community, get advice, and register for classes. They dedicate over 35 hours to become highly trained and knowledgeable student leaders. OLs are the embodiment of #UNOproud as they proudly wear blue and silver and chant our university’s name at every orientation. Last year, they welcomed over 1,500 new students.
What is the Southern Regional Orientation Workshop?
The Southern Regional Orientation Workshop (SROW) is NODA Region IV’s conference. Colleges and Universities from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, and South Carolina come together to network, learn, and celebrate the importance of orientation and its student leaders. This year’s SROW takes place at Coastal Carolina University in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Orientation teams compete in Case Study competitions, educational sessions, banner competitions, and a Song, Skit, Step, and Dance competition. This is a wonderful opportunity for orientation staffs to bond, learn from other schools, and gain professional skills.
What will your support do?
The UNO Orientation Leaders have not participated in SROW since 2015, and we would like to change that! This year we want to start off small by sending our seven returners, a graduate student worker, and two professional staff members. Your support would cover the transportation, lodging, food, and conference fees. We believe that even with a fraction of our team attending, we can bring back valuable lessons and experiences to share with our whole staff. By doing so our orientation staff will be trained better and create new initiatives, thus improving our incoming student's experience. The better the experience a new student has at Orientation, the more likely they are to be successful and graduate from UNO. A gift of any size is appreciated and will help us reach our goal! If you have any questions, please email April Gremillion at aegremi1@uno.edu.
Thank you for your support!
Gifts in support of the University of New Orleans are accepted and managed by the University of New Orleans Foundation, an affiliated 501 (c) (3) organization authorized by the Board of Regents. Contributions are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
What is one thing college students always are? Hungry! $15 will provide meals to an orientation staff member when we are traveling 12 hours to SROW.
How are we going to get to SROW? By van! With your gift, you will help cover the cost of renting the van and gas.
After a long day of educational sessions and chanting, all an OL wants to do is sleep! By gifting $100, you can cover a hotel room for one night.
Attending SROW can truly change an Orientation staff by fostering teamwork, rapport, and leadership. By gifting a registration fee, you will be making a positive impact on the New Student Orientation program as a whole.
Do you want to provide an OL the opportunity to learn and connect with other college students from the Southern region? $500 will cover one OL’s registration fee, hotel, and transportation.
