2019 UNO Model UN Delegation

Please help UNO students participate in the 2019 National Model United Nations conference in New York City this April!

What Will Your Support Do?

Your contribution will enable eighteen students to participate in an exciting five-day simulation of United Nations activity, involving over 3,000 students from across the globe.  Our many debating and resolution-writing sessions will culminate in a final meeting in the General Assembly Hall of the United Nations headquarters building itself.

We are already hard at work in a special International Studies class (INTLS 3060) studying parliamentary procedure, public speaking, debating and a host of international issues.  This year our delegation will be in the spotlight, as we represent a country at the center of much UN activity: war-torn Yemen.  In addition, UNO students will represent China in the Security Council -- the first time our club has been awarded the honor of representing one of the powerful permanent members (known as P5 countries) in such a simulation.

In this way, we believe we are building upon our successful eleven-year track record at the prestigious NMUN gathering and, this November, our award-winning participation in our first international conference in Xi'an, China.  Your support, enhanced by matching grants from the university, will help to cover the lodging, airfare and conference costs of our student delegation.

What do students gain by participating?

The UNO Model United Nations Club (UNOMUN) allows students from throughout the university to conduct research on international and global issues facing the actual United Nations and to improve their public speaking, negotiating, and writing skills.  In this way, students learn how to think, speak, and act as diplomats representing a specifically assigned member nation of the UN and, more broadly, to become more effective and confident leaders, committed to making a difference in the world and in their communities.
